Research

Knowledge is one of the most powerful weapons an Explorer can arm him or herself with. Knowledge however does not come easy or without its’ own costs. Many a pious and scholarly researcher has found himself lured into various Forbidden and Taboo subjects for just a glimpse or to connect a seemingly innocuous dot along a different line of study. Some believe that the ends justifies the means, others go to extreme lengths to gain more research material, whether subjects to interrogate or dissect, or picts of Ancient Carvings on some distant Xenos world.

Tied into research are many skills and talents that would normally not be available to players through their normal Career progression, however with this system there will be an opportunity to purchase them as Elite Advances. It also further expands and defines what the three categories, Common, Scholastic and Forbidden Lore encompass.

The first thing to procure when conducting research would be a suitable location, one that will house your various notes, data-slates, maybe a cogitator and a data-loom. Those with a bent on anatomical and physiological research may require a medicae lab to perform vivisections on captured creatures.

This is not simply a system for Creatures and Xenos, Research can be done into just about anything that you would expect to run into while exploring the vast void. Organizations, Secret Sects, Cults, even Planets, Systems and Enemy Ships. Depending on what you research and how you go about researching it the benefits will vary.
